District 60 School Report Card Summaries

The following spreadsheets show ISAT scores (elementary and middle schools) and ACT scores (high school) for all schools included in Unit School District 60. All information presented is derived from the Illinois State Board of Education website, www.isbe.state.il.us, School Report Cards.

Unit School District 60 includes 14 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, and 1 high school. 5 of the 14 elementary schools, 4 of the 5 middle schools, and the high school are failing schools, which the state defines as a school where 50 percent of students failed to meet state standards for 2 consecutive years. Of the 20 schools in District 60, 7 schools showed improvement in test scores from the previous year, while 13 schools showed continuing decline.

Of the 20 schools:

  • 14 had greater than 50 % of low income students
  • 5 had greater than 40 % of students with limited English proficiency
  • 9 had greater than a 20 % mobility rate

This data continues to raise questions that are not easily answered. Poverty rates, mobility rates, and students with Limited English Proficiency decreased which should have yielded higher test scores. Yet, the number of schools failing to meet or exceed state standards has increased. Nor can race or ethnicity be easily construed with academic achievement since some schools with heavy minority percents did better than other schools where white students made up a higher percentage of the student population.

Factors not objectively measurable and yet to be identified obviously play a significant role in the quality of education.
